Trio Martinů was formed at the Prague Conservatoire in 1990. From the beginning of their work under the auspices of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where the ensemble developed under the guidance of Professor Antonín Kohout (a member of the Smetana Quartet), the Trio has embarked on a career paved with success and awards. These have included semi-final standing in the international competition at Trapani, Italy and first prize in the international contest of chamber ensembles at Heerlen, The Netherlands in 1995.
During their 25 years of playing together, the ensemble has performed in many countries in Europe, as well as Japan, Korea, and the United States of America. Their discography encompasses 6 CDs recorded under Czech, German and Belgian recording companies. Their last CD was released in June 2014 with Beethoven's Triple Concerto, performed with the Prague Symphony Orchestra under the Chinese conductor Muhai Tang.
