We are seeking a skilled Biosafety Officer who will provide expertise and advice on matters relating Biosafety & Biosecurity as a member of the Health, Safety, Biosafety, Biosecurity and Quality Assurance (HSBQ) team.
This position will plan and implement a comprehensive biosafety program to support scientific research, preparing all policies, procedures and guidance to enable compliance and monitoring. The position will also have responsibility for assessing and mitigating risks pertaining to infectious agents and biological toxins; training laboratory personnel in biosafety principles; acting as secretary and advisor to the Biosafety Committee and undertaking a programme of inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and best practice. The Biosafety Officer will also liaise with various governing authorities, acting as the point of contact and host.

The ideal applicant will have:
- A degree in a biological science subject
- A scientific research background in a biological subject such as microbiology, infectious disease or molecular biology – preferably plant related OR formal training in Biological Safety
- Knowledge of containment standards and engineering
- Experience in Biological Safety principles and practises
- Strong oral and written communication skills, and good interpersonal skills.
- A good working knowledge of Health and Safety, Quality Assurance and experience of working in regulatory framework is desirable
- Ability to take clear, concise and accurate minutes of meetings (and follow up on action points as appropriate)
- Ability to exercise discretion and handle confidential or sensitive information
The role is full time, with a renewable fixed term of 3 years, with a starting salary normally in the region of £29,842 to £32,315 per annum pro rata.
