Rothamsted Research is celebrating after receiving a £2,500 gift from The Patron’s Fund, the charitable fund set up to acknowledge the work of the charitable organisations for which Her Majesty, The Queen acts as a Patron, on the occasion of her 90th birthday.
Around £750,000 is available to distribute between nearly 300 charities and other organisations in the UK and the Commonwealth. The Fund received generous donations from a range of supporters; including individual donors, businesses, schools, community groups and the proceeds from The Patron’s Lunch, the event on the Mall last June.
Rothamsted Research is the longest running agricultural research station in the world, providing cutting-edge science and innovation for more than 170 years. Our mission is to deliver the knowledge and new practices to increase crop productivity and quality and to develop environmentally sustainable solutions for food and energy production. Our scientific strategy, for which we receive strategic funding from BBSRC, uses a dynamic and integrated approach to crop and livestock science. This strategy (2012 -2017) is delivered through four interdependent themes:
- 20:20 Wheat
- Cropping Carbon
- Designing Seeds
- Delivering Sustainable Systems
Professor Achim Dobermann, Director of Rothamsted Research said: ‘We are delighted to have The Queen as our Patron. In 2018, Rothamsted Research will be celebrating its 175th anniversary. This gift will help us to prepare a series of world leading events for the research community, the farming community, policy makers and the general public at Rothamsted Research throughout 2018. We look forward to welcoming all our valued stakeholders and colleagues and members of the public at Rothamsted Research.’
Sir Stuart Etherington, Chair of The Board of Trustees for The Patron’s Fund, said:
